A celebration of all that is neat about tequila. Following hot on the heels of whisky, vodka and gin, tequila has become the latest spirit to be revolutionised, gentrified, and beautified in the last ten years. Every day a new small-batch, craft, artisan, tequila brand opens its doors to a loyal and thirsty following of blue agave lovers desperate to get their hands on this nectar of the Aztec gods. The days of slammin' and shootin' shots with a lick of salt and a suck of lemon have passed, and replaced by a definitive twenty-first century glow-up, swapping shot glasses for champagne flutes. Indeed, there is a lot more to tequila than meets the eye, and The Little Book of Tequila has researched itself into sweet oblivion to give its readers more than an eyeful of this mysterious and delicious spirit. "A little tequila, sunshine and tacos never hurt anybody." Ron Woodroof (played by Matthew McConaughey), Dallas Buyers Club, 2013, as seen on IMDB.com. In 2019, the United States bought more than 240,000,000 bottles of tequila, approximately 80 per cent of the world's total supply. The top five states that consumed the most tequila were, you guessed it, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, California, and Maryland.

Walter Snow is doomed. He stares at the blank pages in his typewriter, hoping for the spark that will finally ignite his ambition to write the Great Armenian Novel. And then he meets Clyde Potts. She is beautiful, intelligent, charming, perhaps psychic, and, for better or worse, very possibly unbalanced. With Potts’s joie de vivre and her certified-insane partner in crime, Fox Harris, Snow is caught up in a series of pranks against corporate sprawl that they execute with a bit of booze and some wacky tobaccy from Australia known as Malabimbi Madness. Things quickly spin out of control as the trio’s ultimate, diuretically inspired prank leads to an unexpected, shocking conclusion, and Walter is left to wonder if the only things you ever keep in this life are the things you let slip through your fingers.

Cask Strength tells the story of the unsung hero of the world of spirits, wine, and beer and an invention as ancient and important as the wheel—the humble barrel. Discover the barrel’s rich history, as well as the incredible skill and innovation that goes into producing your favorite drinks. From its first use by the Ancient Egyptians, the barrel has left an unmistakable imprint on human history. The Romans used the barrel in all corners of their vast empire, and explorers could not have charted the globe or opened up trade routes without barrels to store their food and water. And in all its thousands of years of use, the barrel’s basic design has barely changed at all—a testament to its sheer and simple perfection. Cask Strength is more than a history book. In it, Mike Gerrard, an award-winning travel and drinks writer, investigates the making, buying, and selling of barrels and details how drinks like wine, tequila, rum, cognac, and others are enhanced by specific kinds of barrel production. Today, modern distillers, brewers, and wine-makers continue to use barrels in new, creative ways—with the barrel providing up to 60-70% of their flavors. Without the barrel, we would have no bourbon, no oak-aged chardonnay, no barrel-aged stouts . . . and no tabasco sauce, either. Gerrard’s expertise and palpable passion for good beverages interestingly made will ignite the curiosities of booze fans and history buffs alike as Cask Strength traces the simple splendor of the barrel.

His intentional gear-up landing in Brownsville, TX almost cost him his life, being shot by the drug Czar as he diverted the aircraft from Matamoros to Brownsville, TX After months of therapy, and receiving a new first class airmans physical and recurrent training, Jay accepts the position of Chief Pilot for a fortune 500 company in San Antonio TX. Just a few months at his new job, Jay has a rude awakening as he is arrested for the murder of an FAA Inspector. Dee Bolin, Jay Hudsons best friend and special agent for the United States Treasury Department, flys to San Antonio to prove his friends innocence. A novel view of the syntax and semantics of quantifier scope that argues for a "combinatory" theory of natural language syntax. In Taking Scope, Mark Steedman considers the syntax and semantics of quantifier scope in interaction with negation, polarity, coordination, and pronominal binding, among other constructions. The semantics is "surface compositional," in that there is a direct correspondence between syntactic types and operations of composition and types and compositions at the level of logical form. In that sense, the semantics is in the "natural logic" tradition of Aristotle, Leibniz, Frege, Russell, and others who sought to define a psychologically real logic directly reflecting natural language grammar. The book reunites the generative-transformational tradition initiated by Chomsky--which views the formal syntactic component as entirely autonomous---with the older, strongly lexicalist, construction-based tradition, which has sought to define a more lingistically transparent theory of meaning representation. Steedman offers a logical formalism that relates directly to the surface form of language and to the process of inference and proof that it must support. Such a natural logic, although formal by definition, should be allowed to grow organically from attested language phenomena rather than be axiomatized a priori in terms of any standard logic. Steedman also considers the application of natural semantic interpretations to practical natural language processing tasks, emphasizing throughout the elimination of traditional quantifiers from semantic formalism in favor of devices such as Skolem terms and structure-sharing among representations in processing.

Matthew was raised by a profoundly religious Mexican mother and Anglo father. When in his twenties, he believes he has been called by God to embark on a mission to spread the gospel among the indigenous Tarahumaras in northern Chihuahua, Mexico. He leaves behind his family and sweetheart, Dotty, to walk "like Jesus walked." He also hitchhikes through the remote southern New Mexico desert and the rugged Sierra Madre into the Copper Canyon area. Matthew befriends Jesus and stays with his family, working with him in the field by day and engaging in long conversations at night. They discuss folk beliefs, the Tarahumara religion, and philosophy. Matthew's faith begins to waver and he finds himself in a sea of ambiguity. Following a dramatic change of mind, heart, and soul, he decides to return home to orient his strange emerging self. On the way, he has a run-in with drug traffickers and kills one of them; he is mugged twice and loses his faith in the goodness of mankind; his financial resources diminish, compelling him to collaborate in a robbery. In short, his life becomes what before his journey would have been virtually unthinkable. Physically drained, when he is back home and sees Dotty, he can do no more than weakly whisper her name, leaving the novel open to multiple interpretations.
