This book discusses the concept of desire as a positive factor in human growth and flourishing. All human decision-making is preceded by some kind of desire, and we act upon desires by either rejecting or following them. It argues that our views on and expressions of desire in various facets of life and through time have differed according to how human beings are taught to desire. Therefore, the concept has tremendous potential to affect human beings positively and to enable personal growth. Though excellent research has been done on the concepts of flourishing, character education and positive psychology, no other work has linked the concept of desire to all of these topics. Featuring key references, explanations of central concepts, and significant practical applications of desire to various fields of human thought and action, the book will be of interest to students and researchers in the fields of positive psychology, positive education, moral philosophy, and virtue ethics.

Este libro trata de determinar su significado preciso a través del reto que representa sentar las bases para el desarrollo de una verdadera metapsicología psicoanalítica de la “mediana edad”, algo que los editores creen que le faltaba al psicoanálisis. Desde este planteamiento, han invitado a catorce psicoanalistas de renombre a que compartieran sus ideas sobre el tema y el resultado de esa labor es Puesta al día sobre la mediana edad: perspectivas psicoanalíticas, que, además de las diversas aportaciones, contiene un estudio introductorio realizado por los editores. Este libro supone un verdadero avance en el desarrollo de una metapsicología específica para la “mediana edad”.

Given the complexity of scientific developments inside and outside the psychoanalytic field, traditional definitions of basic psychoanalytic notions are no longer sufficiently comprehensive. We need conceptualizations that encompass new clinical phenomena observed in present-day patients and that take into account contributions inside, outside, and on the boundaries of our practice. This book discusses theoretical concepts which explain current clinical expressions that are as ineffable as they are commonplace. Our patients resort to these expressions when they feel distressed by their perception of themselves as unreal, empty, fragile, non-existent, non-desiring, doubtful about their identity, beset by feelings of futility and apathy, and emotionally numb. The book aims at contrasting the ideas of Winnicott and Kohut, which are connected with a clinical practice that sees each patient as unique and are moreover in direct contact with empirical facts, and applies them to the benefit of complex patients. These ideas facilitate the expansion of paths in both the theory and the practice of our profession. Uniquely contrasting the works of two seminal thinkers with a Latin American perspective, Winnicott and Kohut on Intersubjectivity and Complex Disorders will be invaluable to clinicians and psychoanalysts.

Latency is a developmental period that plays a transitional role, like "a bridge", between early childhood and adolescence (the beginning of early adulthood). However, the latency period is a subject that has not been studied enough in psychoanalysis in recent years.Most of the psychoanalytic frameworks that have built on and extended Freud's work have focussed their attention either on the understanding of the child's early development (the early dyadic and triadic relationship of the infant and the early organization of the mind), or on the understanding of adolescent development, when sexuality explodes - accompanied by all unconscious libidinal elements from the early organization which were repressed in latency. As a result, interest in the latency period has been put in the shade: left dormant as its definition would imply.The aim of this book is to raise a number of relevant questions, which have not received much attention in psychoanalysis up to now. To this end empirical findings are related to conceptual elaboration in order to advance knowledge.

Este marco se puede aplicar a la implementación de uno o varios programas y a la implementación de la protección social adaptativa. El libro de referencia se estructura en torno a ocho principios que encuadran el concepto de los sistemas de implementación: 1. No hay un modelo único para los sistemas de implementación, pero existen puntos en común que constituyen el núcleo del marco de los sistemas de implementación. 2. La calidad de la implementación es importante: Las debilidades en alguno de los elementos principales afectarán negativamente a todo el sistema, lo que, a su vez, reducirá el impacto de los programas a los que dan apoyo. 3. Los sistemas de implementación evolucionan a lo largo del tiempo de forma no lineal, y los puntos de partida son fundamentales. 4. Es necesario buscar «la sencillez» y «hacer bien lo sencillo» desde el inicio. 5. La «primera milla» (la interfaz mediante la cual las personas interaccionan directamente con las funciones administrativas) suele ser el eslabón más débil en la cadena de implementación. Reformarlo puede requerir un cambio sistémico, pero mejorará considerablemente la eficacia general y mitigará el riesgo de fallos en la primera instancia. 6. Los programas de protección social no operan en un vacío, por lo que sus sistemas de implementación no deberían desarrollarse de forma aislada. Las sinergias entre distintas instituciones y sistemas de información son posibles y pueden mejorar los resultados de los programas. 7. Los sistemas de implementación de protección social contribuyen a la capacidad del gobierno de ayudar a otros sectores, por ejemplo, las subvenciones para seguros de salud, las becas, las tarifas energéticas sociales, las ayudas para la vivienda y los servicios legales. 8. Los desafíos asociados a la inclusión y a la coordinación son amplios y perennes, y motivan la mejora continua de los sistemas de implementación a través de un planteamiento dinámico, integrado y centrado en las personas.
